Torsion springs are helical springs that exert torque or rotary force.
Although the name implies otherwise, torsion springs are subjected to bending stress rather than torsional stress. Depending on the application, torsion springs can be designed to work in a clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation. Torsion springs are generally mounted around a shaft or arbor, and must be supported at three or more points. The legs can be located in any position and have virtually any type of bend, twist or loop, making them very versatile in a variety of applications.
Torsion springs are an excellent choice for products such as garage doors, clothespins, door hinges, stadium seating and more.
